ULISES: News

Official Jungle Video - July 26, 2010

It's FINALLY done!

African tribal dances, exotic looks, and a powerful symbolic video- what more could you want?! If you know entertainment, then prepare to be entertained. "Jungle" - a sexy, tribal, exotic summer anthem- is brought to life through risqué yet creative images that help encapsulate the meaning of the song. Don't watch it yet! You're not ready for it, or are u?

Mexico... - July 11, 2010

So, I finally got back from my trip to Mexico. I was able to capture a lot of MAGNIFICENT shots for the "JUNGLE" video. It's gonna be amazing~ I promise! So below are some pics I want to share with y'all. I got to meet A LOT of people and even met some amazingly talented artists that you've probably either heard on the radio or seen in Spanish Television. Check them out!! Jungle video should be done by this weekend.

Below are a couple of videos I shot in Mexico.

The first one is by an African dance group based in Mazatlan doing one of there great performances. I will be using some of this footage for the "Jungle" video. These guys go by the name of Temixoch.

This next video was recorded at La Isla in Mazatlan where the local musicians would play music at your table for a small little fee. As a musician myself, I am always getting inspired and drawing from different cultures from around the world when it comes to producing, writing, or singing a song, so I thought I'd record them and show ya how we do it in Mexico. Haha.

I met Altair Jarabo. You probably recognize her from novelas from Televisa like "Al Diablo con los Guapos" and "En Nombre Del Amor." Es una chica muy amable, sencilla, y muy bonita.

UPDATE: Jungle Unleashed... - July 1, 2010

"JUNGLE" Video

I have successfully recorded 75% of the scenes that I need for the video. The rest of it will be shot in Mexico next week. This video will by far, be the most interesting one I've put out yet. There's gonna be a lot of symbolism and a deep message, all while keeping it fun, creative, and eye-catching. It's gonna be controversial and will hopefully make people think. Below are a few pics from a couple of the shoots...

So while I was in the Twin Cities, I had an opportunity to meet Shontelle- a new up and coming artist who is currently making waves on the radio with her hit "Impossible." She was very humble and down-to-earth. Really enjoyed chatting and meeting her. Below is a performance and a pic of her and me.

Big Boi outkasts in Dallas

A while back, Big Boi came to Dallas. Here's some of the footage I captured. He pretty much confirmed that his album was done and that he'd be putting it out sometime in 2010. He had so much energy and put on a great performance. Check out the footage below...

So I got an opportunity to go check them out @ the Superpages here in Dallas. All I can say is that they were pretty dope. They opened up for the New Kids on the Block. Check them out below!

Still haven't finalized that just yet, though. Nonetheless, it's gonna be a deep, symbolic album riding out to fun, rhythmic, pulsating beats.

PROMO

Expect to hear a lot more from me in the future. I'm just a simple kid with nothing but dreams, talent, and intelligence to back it up. I want to show that it's not necessary to sign with a record label to be a successful, creative artist; I am not a prostitute. Money is not the reason that motivates me. All it takes is creativity, drive, & perseverance. A positive attitude, great friends & family help as well. I'm activated and ready to play my part in saving our world; 2012.

ALBUM TITLE

So the title of my new album is... wait for it...(dun,dun,dun)... FREQUENCIES OF BRILLIANCE; SOUNDS OF COLOR. The cover is gonna be very abstract and interesting. This is gonna be my most creative project as of yet. As was the case in my previous two albums, I produced all the songs on this up and coming album. It's one hundred percent me. Lyrics, voice, production- it's gonna make you dance. It's a very positive, innovative album. It should be out no later than May. For now, enjoy the FREE downloads on the music section of my site. Can't wait till ya'll hear what I've been cookin' up. Let May roll on out!

STEVIE WONDER- SUPERSTITION (Cover)

So yesterday night, I decided I'd sing to Stevie Wonder's Superstition. This song is jammin'. It's funky, dancy, and very catchy. Here's the video. Hope I fared well... =P Enjoy!

I want to be a creative musical talent like Timbaland, a Latin bombshell like a Ricky Martin who has the attitude of a Prince & moves that rock like a Michael Jackson, all combined with a voice of versatility and power like no one's before. Thanks for your support! I really appreciate every single one of u. Know that I don't do this for the money, but for the opportunity to help make this world a better place.

Kelis was here... - April 8, 2010

Kelis performed last night here in Dallas and she killed it! She was sassy, fearless, beautiful and better than ever. Not only did she put on a great performance, she took pictures with fans and even danced with them after giving her spectacular show. Got an opportunity to meet her and her DJ. From talking to her and being around her, I was able to notice that she was very down to earth and cool. In conclusion, I had an amazing night. I smell a future collaboration between the two of us... =P

She perfomed these songs in the following order: 4th of July, Milkshake/Holiday, Acapella, and I Got A Feeling (by the BEP's). Enjoy the vid...

Photo Shoot, Videos, & New Album - April 4, 2010

What's up everyone?! Just wanted to fill ya'll in on what's goin' on in my own little world. Ha. K well, been shooting a video for "My Swag", doing photoshoots, and recording. There is a lot of stuff goin' on right now and I'm really excited to see where this is all going. Should be a very interesting week. I'm hoping to have a lot of these new things posted up later on. K- so here we go...

Photo Shoots-

With these new photo shoots, I'd like to capture my essence; who I am. Like my music, I like to keep things interesting. I want these shoots to show life, energy, action, creativity, fashion, and soul. Some of them will be regular "beauty" shots (lol) while others will encapsulate a message. Either way, they should be pretty interesting.

"My Swag" Video-

We've (the dancers, my friends, & I) have been arduously working to put a video together for "My Swag." We finally finished shooting the material today. I'm really excited about it all. The process has been amazing. I really drew a lot of influence from the Asian culture. You'll see it all over the video. It's gonna be visually entertaining. Here are a few pics... Hope u like them.

Behind The Scenes: My Swag Video Shoot

NEW ALBUM-

K so last time I checked in with you, I told ya'll I had been working on several songs. I've finally decided to release my third album hopefully no later than the end of this May. It's gonna be very interesting; A very positive album. The title that I had come up with last year for my third album (The Musically Transmitted Disease) will no longer be the title of this work. I'll be posting the new album's title later on this week. It's PERFECTION!

I may not have the money that all these "signed" artist have, but I do have my creativity, smarts, and drive to carry out my ideas. Spread the light. Thanks for y'alls support.

I Got It Official Video - March 2, 2010

Sexy dancers, a mime, golden slave, and so much more... Dare I say, intriguing? Time to start a commotion; with the help of my handy camara and two of my best friends, I was able to successfully capture my vision. Although we ran into trouble (almost being arrested, my car battery dying, and my computer getting infected with a virus), I was still able to succesfully complete it. The storyline is simply amazing! Yes, there is a lot of symbolism... let's see if you can figure out what message the video is trying to convey. It's art! Hope you enjoy it. Let 2010 roll on out!

Special Thanks to my two AMAZING dancers who've been with me since the very beginning:
Mayra & Maricela. You can find a link to there myspace pages on my myspace page: www.myspace.com/ulisespb

Also thanks to my two best friends, BRENDA & LUIS, for helping me carry out this exhausting mission. Couldn't have done it without your support.

Finally, just want to thank all the people who listen and enjoy my music. I do music for you. Just to know that ya'll enjoy it makes me happy. Either way, I hope I can make you think with this video, and maybe even make you smile. This is an extension of my creativity. Hope you enjoy it.

It's ART!

Interview - December 2, 2009

Recently say down and did an interview with CaMari from the Breath of Phresh Air Blog. Check it out!

BOPA's Phresh Artist comes from Dallas, Texas. Reader's let me tell you something-diversity in today's music world is essential. When your type casted your career is pretty much over; thus, "one hit" wonder ratios are high which makes it a lot harder to get noticed by record companies. This brings me to my whole point. Ulises style has many stages and that's rare; of course when you see the photos you think, "Oh another pop artist," but you couldn't be wronger (new word deal with it). Ulises is a true example of a diverse artist indulging in R&B, Hip-Hop & Pop. When I first heard Ulises music I was like "Whoa, he sounds amazing." I think he sent over Fever and that song alone had me hooked; I would always be on his myspace and website reading and following where his career is heading and I can see nothing but the best in his future. Ulises isn't like the alot of the artist out now, many of the artist out now probably couldn't tell you how to mix master engineer or any of the technical work that goes into music, they can't tell you how any of its done. Ulises is not a dummy to music; he attended McNally Smith College of Music one of the most prestigious music schools. There he graduated with an Associates Degree in Music Production. He not only learned how to work with programs like Pro tools, Reason, and Logic, but also managed to learn how to run studio gear like; SSL consoles (4000 & 6000), Digi boards, and Radar. Ulises is truly amazing. I caught up with Ulises he agreed to do an mini interview with me to help expose his musical craft and let the world know who Ulises is.

BOPA- Ulises first let me say thank you for taking time to let me interview you I appreciate it.

Ulises- Definitely, no prob.

BOPA- When did you know that music was something you wanted to do?

Ulises- I always knew from a very early age that music was my passion. I pretty much grew up in a music filled environment; my mom’s side of the family was always heavily involved in music especially at church, so she kind of helped create that musical platform.

BOPA- And how did you get your start?

Ulises- I was always pretty musically active. Whether I was in band or participating in a school show, I was always on the get go. It wasn’t until I was in High School that I knew I really wanted to do something within the musical field. I began working with producers, recording at studios, and writing my own songs just to try to start building that professional foundation. I decided to pursue a degree in Music Production and soon after graduating high school, decided to fly off to Minnesota to attend McNally Smith College of Music.

BOPA-If music wasn't an option, what would Ulises be doing?

Ulises- I would have liked to do something with in the science field; I’ve always been interested in the cosmos and the galactic life. So much mystery, so much space. I feel like there is so much to learn and uncover that many of us might not yet know. History and Math were always interesting to me as well. Honestly, I just like to learn. I’d probably be involved in a career that wasn’t monotonous and had some kind of challenging excitement to it. I feel like we are capable of so much, yet sometimes don’t really embrace our power.

BOPA-What do you wanna achieve in the long run with your music?

Ulises- Well, I’d like to be able to connect with people on a different level; to be able to use my power for something good and positive. I’d like to motivate, engage, and inspire people. Money comes and goes, but the long-lasting connection you could establish with a person via a song, or even just talking or what not, can change or trigger something within them that could help change there world and maybe even ours.

BOPA-How do you feel about the mass spread of illegal downloads?

Ulises- I’m not opposed to it. On the contrary, I’m completely honored to hear and know that people are downloading my music. My goal while creating music is to help inspire or change someone’s life in a positive way. I just want them to enjoy music as much as I do, so I’m definitely all for it. In short- I approve! Ha.

BOPA- Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

Ulises- I see myself being peaceful and content with everything going on within my life. I picture myself happy, full of life, and energy.

BOPA-If you were stranded on a desert island, what three items would you take with you?

Ulises- Music, Family, & a Survival book

BOPA- Alright so your Sophomore album "Musically Promiscuous" is available on itunes as well as your first album "Projection Beautiful". Tell me what inspired "Musically Promiscuous”?

Ulises- I like ALL types of music. Therefore, I felt the need to do an album where I included a little bit of everything- kind of like a buffet of songs. I wanted to showcase what it is that I can do and how I can play around with my voice, production, and lyrics to create a variety of interesting proposals to the listener.

BOPA-Do you have any shows coming up?

Ulises- Definitely. There is one coming up soon here in December in Downtown Dallas and one closer to New Years.

BOPA-What separates you from the male artist out now?

Ulises- The fact that I know what I’m doing and am heavily involved in EVERY aspect of my music from the conception to the completion. Even after a CD is completed, I like to be a part of the artistic team where we come up with ideas and decide what songs to perform at shows, what we’re gonna wear, and what choreography we’ll end up doin’. I really just like to be heavily involved with everything that I’m doing.

BOPA-Is Ulises single?

Ulises- Definitely; I am very busy and haven’t had enough time to really commit and give 100% of myself in a relationship. It’s difficult to remain focused and goal-oriented, but you can’t always have your cake and eat it too. Haha. A few sacrifices here and there, but I’m sure in the long run it’ll all be worth it.

BOPA- What do you do on your spare time?

Ulises- I like to spend time with family and friends which is very important; they help keep me grounded and remind me of who I am and where I come from. They help me grow spiritually and make me appreciate what I have.

BOPA- What is your favorite genre to record?

Ulises-I honestly like to record all types; the more challenging, the better. With Pop tracks, I like to experiment with my voice and create sounds and effects that’ll add an extra edge to it. R&B and Ballads can have so much emotion within them and that’s always a plus. Hip-Hop tracks can be full of energy and just wild. Ha. But I think that Ballads/ R&B ones are definitely my favorite because of the fact that so much emotion goes into them and that these can remain classics.

BOPA- Ulises I want to thank you for taking time to do this interview with me. I truly do appreciate it.

Ulises- Definitely. No problem. I appreciate you taking the time to do this.

BOPA- Is there anything you want to tell my reader's

Ulises- Just want to say thanks for taking the time to read this interview. Be sure to check out my music atwww.ulisesworld.com Something I like to reiterate to anyone and everyone: knowledge is power. Be true to yourself; don’t let other people’s actions define who you are. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or demand answers. Individuality is something that makes us unique. Love yourself- flaws and all. On another note, I hope you enjoy my music and are able to identify with it at some level. Haha. Thanks once again. Uli is out!

What up FAM!!! It's that time again to post an update. Lately, I've been busy recording, writing, and producing some more new music for my up & coming CD titled THE MTD: Musically Transmitted Disease. I'm gathering ideas and trying to get everything ready for November (which is my target release month). Gonna start booking a few photoshoot sessions so I can hopefully shoot the cover and other pics for promo. Should be interesting. Trying to put everything together with the help of my team to successfully present a product that'll capture and express precisely what I'm trying to communicate. Expect the album to be fun and funky fresh- full of energy. Overall, I've recorded a total of 30 songs and I still am working on more. IDK which ones I'll be using for the album yet, but just know that it's gonna be sizzlin' and full of heat! Ha. There is just so much I want to do, and share with ya'll, but I got to be patient; a lot of variety. Thank ya'll for your continuous support.

NEW SONG

So I've recently posted up a NEW song titled "I GOT IT"; it's  a DIRTY SOUTH club track that's jammin'; think of a Lil'Wayne/ T.I. track with an Omarion/Usher/JT voice on it and you have "I GOT IT". So if u don't got it, get it now 'cause DJ's are beginning to spin it like crazy. Trust me; been doin' a lot of promo with this one. It's HOT!!!! Download it free here: http://www.zshare.net/audio/6556010680431b52/

UPDATE - July 15, 2009

What’s new in the world of ULISES? Many, many things have been goin’ on, some of which I can’t really discuss because they’re “confidential,” but those of which I can talk about, I will. Lol. So I’ve been working nonstop on new music, collaborating with other artist, recording for my 3rd CD, and writing and producing like always. Things are really starting to shape up over here. I feel as if I know what I want to do with this album that I’m workin’ on. The release date may change once again, depending on what happens with some projects, but trust me, it’ll all be for the best if it does change. Remember that in this industry, TIMING IS EVERYTHING.

OTHER FUN FACTS

I recently had the honor of meeting some really cool artists, so I'm gonna start name dropping. Lol. Here we go. I met the Jonas Brothers, Jordin Sparks, Laurie Ann Gibson, Honor Society, & Pimp C's wife (and her publisher) just to name a few. Jordin Sparks is super talented and amazingly beautiful. She's a really down to earth gal and really sweet. She sang Happy Birthday to a little boy in a wheel chair before he left. Laurie Ann Gibson is really short as are the Jonas Brothers, but the thing that I really like the most about Laurie is her energy. She's amazing! K well that's the little scoop of gossip that I had for you guys. =P

All in all, it feels good to feel acknowledged; it motivates me even more. Thank you for believing in me and helping me with my musical career. As always, I appreciate all the support from fans and friends. Be sure to check back in a few weeks. I may have some BIG news comin’ up. =P Either way, send all your positivity and best wishes towards my direction. They’re greatly appreciated.
